Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn at Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. When she was young the carnival barker father died and left her mother no option but to be a cleaning lady and waitress in order to feed the family. Ruth went to school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. The route she took was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines, acting work she longed to do was abyssal. She then worked as the hat checker in the nightclub before calling the shots and moving back to Boston. As an usherette, she worked during the day and then appeared at the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first ever permanent acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
